The AP/RC seeks opportunities to connect prints in the collection with preparatory work for the printed image. In this case, we were able to obtain from Landfall Press a drawing by Vernon Fisher that relates directly to the lithograph, Perdido en el mar (Lost at Sea)(1989) that was published by Landfall. However, our notion of “preparatory” was reversed. While some might expect that a related drawing tends to be completed before its related print is edition, in this case it is the opposite. The drawing was done a year or so after the print, dated by the artist and dedicated to Jack Lemon, the founder and director of Landfall Press. Fisher made obvious adjustments to the drawing but the connections between them are a source of interesting comparison and sequencing.
