Andy Warhol in the AP/RC

About a decade ago, as we were developing the Artist Printmaker/Photographer Research Collection, the Andy Warhol Foundation for the Visual Arts celebrated in 2007 its 20th anniversary. One facet of this celebration included the distribution of thousands of Warhol’s polaroids and silver prints. Throughout the United States, museums received generous gifts form the Foundation of these images. 160 of which were donated to the Museum of Texas Tech University.

A few years later in 2013, the same Foundation distributed screen prints by Warhol…some were outside of the original edition, proofs, and other idiosyncratic works. The Museum received seven of these works. Both gifts added considerable breadth to our collection, providing public access to a wide selection of artworks by one of the most important post-World War Two artists of the 20th century. We are, of course, deeply grateful to the Andy Warhol Foundation for the Visual Arts.
